More About Periodontics
Most of our patients come in twice a year for routine cleanings, but some patients need a deeper cleaning. These deep cleanings help prevent periodontal disease in those who are susceptible. It’s important to do your utmost to prevent periodontal disease because if it progresses it can cause you to lose your teeth.
To help in the prevention of this disease, we examine your gums and mouth each time you visit us for an exam. If we see signs of gum recession, that is, gums pulling away from the teeth, we’ll recommend a more thorough examination.
Signs that you may need a deep cleaning are inflammation, bleeding, or “pockets” that form as the bacteria causes the gums to pull away from the teeth.
Our hygienist will provide a deep cleaning for you, which involves a scaling and planing process which is usually pain free. More importantly, this deep cleaning can help prevent the disease from progressing. If further work is needed, we will introduce you to a specialist who can perform surgery.
Signs You May Have Disease
If you’re wondering whether you may be a candidate for a deep cleaning from our periodontics dentist, you’ll want to check to see if you experience certain symptoms. For example, if your gums bleed when you floss or brush your teeth, you may need a deep cleaning.
Further, if you have noticed that your gums are pulling back or receding from your teeth, you may need to come in for a consultation. If you’ve noticed bad breath, this can also be a sign of periodontal disease.
Benefits of Deep Cleaning
- Gums become pink and firm again. Bleeding lessens or stops altogether.
- Diseases caused by infections and plaque build-up are eliminated or stopped in their progression.
- The removal of the bacteria prevents further deterioration of the teeth.
- Your overall oral health is greatly improved.

Insurance & Billing
Dental insurance is intended to cover some, but not all of the cost of your dental care. Most plans include a co-payment, and deductible which must be paid by the patient at the time of service. Insurance coverage is not, and never has been, a guideline for quality care. We accept most PPO insurances. Please contact our friendly staff to learn more about your insurance and billing options.
