More About Dental Crowns
Teeth that have been drilled and then restored with a filling don’t always remain intact. Often, as time passes, the tooth weakens and can crack. When that happens, infection and decay can result. If the decay reaches the pulp, a root canal procedure is often performed. Following root canal therapy, a crown is used to restore the tooth to its full function and beauty.
If you’ve experienced some amount of damage to one of your teeth, a crown is a simple and effective way to restore it. Dr. Ahuja provides our patients with crowns that look beautifully natural and blend in with the rest of your smile.
Your crown will cover the tooth, essentially hiding and strengthening it simultaneously. The crown can restore a tooth’s shape, size, and color. If you have a decayed tooth that you want to protect and still be able to use, a crown is an effective solution. Crowns can restore broken teeth or they can hold a dental bridge in place. They can also hide stained teeth.
Placing a crown is a relatively simple procedure. Initially, we will anesthetize the problem area. When the area is numb, we will take an impression of your tooth, so that we can create a beautiful crown made of a porcelain-type material. This material gives your crown a sheen and a strength that will closely match the rest of your smile.
In the meantime, a temporary crown is placed on your tooth, allowing us to protect it until your personalized crown is finished. When your crown is complete, we’ll bring you back to the office and fit it to your tooth.
Crowns offer many benefits:
- They are durable and generally long lasting.
- They protect your tooth from further decay, infection, and breakage.
- They offer improved chewing and eating.
- They provide a more attractive and healthier smile.
We offer traditional crowns, which, when cemented into place, offer protection and strength to your compromised tooth. If you’ve been suffering from a cracked or broken tooth, we recommend you give us a call today for a private consultation. Often, a crown can resolve the issue, and your smile will be returned to its natural health and beauty.
Dental bridges are a series of crowns, which cover (or “bridge”) a gap in your smile. Two dental crowns are bonded to your natural teeth, one on either side of the gap, to anchor the bridge. Additional crowns are attached to these anchor crowns to fill in your missing teeth. Bridges can be made to replace one tooth or many teeth, depending on your dental needs. They look and feel natural, and can help restore your ability to eat, talk, and smile without any difficulty.
We hope you’ll contact us today to schedule an appointment. We’re delighted to meet with you and assess the health of your smile. Dr. Ahuja will then recommend the optimum procedure to restore your smile. She can help you decide if a dental crown or bridge is the right option for you.

Insurance & Billing
Dental insurance is intended to cover some, but not all of the cost of your dental care. Most plans include a co-payment, and deductible which must be paid by the patient at the time of service. Insurance coverage is not, and never has been, a guideline for quality care. We accept most PPO insurances. Please contact our friendly staff to learn more about your insurance and billing options.
